What is the office like? . . .
HAZZOURI PSYCHOLOGY provides an environment that is comfortable and private. The offices are newly decorated. There is ample waiting room space. Parking is easy and free of charge, and the building is handicap accessible.
How confidential is therapy? . . .
I hold your privacy in high regard. All licensed psychologists adhere to a code of ethics with strict requirements for maintaining client confidentiality. Contact with outside professionals, schools, insurance companies, and even other family members is made only with your permission. Since Scranton and the surrounding area seems to get smaller each day, it is not extraordinary for me to see a client outside of therapy, walking through the mall or even at a local movie theater. In such an instance, you can rest assured that your privacy is not at risk. In an effort to keep your confidentiality and provide you with the standard of care that you deserve, I do not speak to clients outside the office, unless spoken to.
How long does therapy take? . . .
Therapy sessions are generally about 45-minutes in length. HAZZOURI PSYCHOLOGY provides short-term interventions as well as long-term treatment. Some clients need only a few sessions to meet their goals, while others continue in therapy for an extended period of time in an effort to resolve long-standing issues.
What if I don’t really need therapy? . . .
In our initial phone conversation, I am usually able to determine whether or not therapy is necessary and whether you might benefit more from seeing a different type of professional. In cases where it’s unclear, I will reserve the right to make a recommendation following an initial consultation. Regardless, I am always happy to provide recommendations and additional resources. Many of the children and adults I meet with for therapy are on a path to well-being, not struggling with ill-being. They are looking to feel happier, get along better at work, school, or home, or to improve their parenting and the behavior of their children.
What if this is not the right practice for me? . . .
In the first phone consult, I will determine if I am going to be well-suited to help with the concerns you are describing. If I do not specialize in the need that you have, I am well-connected with other professionals in the area and will be happy to help you find a better fit.
What about medication? . . .
Psychologists do not prescribe medication. HAZZOURI PSYCHOLOGY attempts to partner with you to help you meet your goals through talk therapy and problem-solving strategies. However, some clients also take medication to help improve their symptoms. If I feel that medication might be useful, I will help you to arrange a medication consultation with a physician. If you would like to explore this option, I have good relationships with many psychiatrists in the area and am happy to help with an appropriate referral for consultation and possible treatment. Some clients prefer to see their primary care physician about medication, which I can also help facilitate.
What if I have other children with me when I bring my child? . . .
There is ample waiting room space and plenty of children’s books and toys.
Do you accept insurance? . . .
HAZZOURI PSYCHOLOGY sets fees at the average rate for doctoral-level psychologists in private practice in the area. Like many psychologists in the area, I am not an in-network provider (co-pay). However, I am partially covered as an out-of-network provider for nearly all insurance companies. Clients pay at the time of the session, and I provide a receipt with the information needed for submission for insurance reimbursement.
What if I need outside help? . . .
I work in close connection with respected psychiatrists and other local physicians, as well as school counselors, speech and language pathologists, dieticians, educational advocates and other professionals. I also maintain connections with other local psychologists in case I am not best suited to meet your needs.
What if my child or teen doesn’t want to come? . . .
Many children and teens would not come in, if parents did not force the issue. However, once they meet me, they usually have a change of heart. I am highly capable of making children and teens feel comfortable and at communicating that our partnership is about feeling better and being better. Also, parents can rest easy upon arrival at the office. You don’t have to make your child or teen participate, that’s my job.
